Before he was an international super star of the silver screen, Will Smith was The Fresh Prince.
Not just The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air TV fame, but The Fresh Prince rapping lyrics with his hip hop partner DJ Jazzy Jeff.
They had a hit song Summertime that was a poolside anthem in the early 90s.
Here is an excerpt from that warm weather classic:
School is out and it's a sort of a buzz
But back then I didn't really know what it was
But now I see what have of this
The way that people respond to summer madness
The weather is hot and girls are dressing less
And checking out the fellas to tell 'em who's best
Ridin' around in your jeep or your Benzos
Or in your Nissan sitting on Lorenzos
When people think about summer fitness, this line sums it up perfectly: the weather is hot and girls are dressing less and checking out the fellas to tell them who’s best.
Summertime is less about health and more about looking good.
That’s ok!
Looking good is feeling good.
Feeling good leads to more healthy habits that achieve the goal of physical attractiveness, physical competence, and mental well-being.
Often times, the physical appearance aspects of health are disregarded as vain pursuits that should be shunned.
“Be happy with who you are,” they say!
The reality is that healthy people look healthy.
That does not mean that unhealthy habits can’t lead to a perception of physical health - anorexia will show those abs!
Bad idea.
What it does mean is that healthy people rarely look unhealthy.
The outer form is a reflection of inner health.
This summer, don’t be ashamed to pursue that tight tummy, firm rump, or athletic thighs.
The healthy habits required to achieve that physical appearance will have benefits for the body, mind, and soul.
Looking good is feeling good!
