Proposal for a presentation at Scientex International Conference on Global Healthcare.
Speaker: Michael Ockrim, Founder of Mighty Oak Athletic
Abstract:
Physical inactivity has become a global epidemic, with a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of children worldwide. Childhood obesity rates are rising, and the lack of physical activity is linked to a range of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. In this speech, Michael Ockrim of Mighty Oak Athletic will discuss how strength training for children can be a solution to the physical inactivity epidemic.
Strength training is a form of exercise that involves resistance to muscular contractions and can be performed using bodyweight or external resistance. It is commonly associated with adult fitness but has significant benefits for children as well. Research has shown that strength training in children can improve bone density, reduce the risk of injury, and enhance overall physical fitness (Faigenbaum et al., 2009). Furthermore, it can lead to improved self-esteem, body image, and confidence (Peterson et al., 2018).
Michael Ockrim will discuss how strength training can be used to promote physical literacy in children and reduce the risk of chronic diseases associated with physical inactivity. He will provide examples of strength training exercises suitable for children and highlight the importance of proper technique, supervision, and progression.
In conclusion, this speech will highlight how strength training for children can be a practical and effective solution to the global physical inactivity epidemic. It can lead to improved physical, mental, and social health outcomes, setting children up for a lifetime of healthy habits and wellbeing.
